U.D.O. - Voodoo Ranger

2027 marks a unique triple anniversary for Udo Dirkschneider and U.D.O.: Udo turns 75, U.D.O. celebrate 40 years as a band, and Voodoo Ranger marks the release of the German heavy metal institution's 20th studio album. The album will be accompanied by the extensive Triple Anniversary Tour 2027 across Europe, while Udo Dirkschneider's official autobiography will be published in the very same month. Voodoo Ranger finds U.D.O. as unmistakable as ever - while remaining open to surprises. Powerful riffs, massive hooks and Udo Dirkschneider's unique voice meet heavier and darker moments as well as two special ballads: first single "I'll Die Trying" showcases the emotional side of Udo's unmistakable voice, while closing track "Moving On" sees Peter Baltes take over lead vocals. In between, second single "The Sky Is The Limit" brings the full heavy metal power back. Written by Udo Dirkschneider, Sven Dirkschneider, Peter Baltes and Fabian "Dee" Dammers, and featuring contributions from new guitarist Alen Brentini, Voodoo Ranger combines four decades of heavy metal history with an undiminished determination to keep moving forward. The album was produced and mixed by Martin "Mattes" Pfeiffer, mastered by Stefan Kaufmann, with artwork by Eliran Kantor. 75 years. 40 years of U.D.O. 20 albums. And the metal heart keeps beating. Three numbers. One extraordinary chapter in heavy metal history. 2027 is a milestone year for Udo Dirkschneider and U.D.O. - and one that almost seems too perfectly aligned to have been planned. Udo Dirkschneider celebrates his 75th birthday, U.D.O. marks 40 years as a band , and with Voodoo Ranger , the German metal institution delivers its 20th studio album . Three anniversaries that will also take U.D.O. across Europe on their RPM EU 1 / 4 aptly named Triple Anniversary Tour 2027 . And the celebrations don't stop there. In the same month as the release of Voodoo Ranger , Udo Dirkschneider's official autobiography , written together with Dan Dreyer, will also be published. Album, book and tour thus come together at a unique point in his career - looking back on an extraordinary history while, characteristically, continuing to move forward. But anyone expecting Voodoo Ranger to be an exercise in looking backwards has seriously underestimated U.D.O. For four decades, the band has stood for something increasingly rare: absolute consistency without creative stagnation. U.D.O. have never needed to chase trends or reinvent themselves for the sake of it. They know exactly who they are. That unmistakable metallic backbone, the riffs, the hooks and, above all, Udo Dirkschneider's voice - one of the most instantly recognizable instruments in heavy metal - remain unmistakably their own. Yet being true to yourself doesn't mean standing still. Voodoo Ranger is very much a U.D.O. record, but one with enough twists, contrasts and surprises to prove that even after twenty albums, there are still different sides of this band to uncover. At its heart is the same fire that has powered U.D.O. since 1987: resilience, defiance, independence and an almost stubborn determination to keep moving forward. Again and again, those ideas surface across the album - standing your ground in "Testify,"refusing to break in "Back Breaker," reaching higher in "The Sky Is The Limit," celebrating a life lived through music in "Magic Life," or simply refusing to stop in "I'll Die Trying." And it is "I'll Die Trying" that makes an unexpected but fitting introduction to this new chapter. Rather than opening the Voodoo Ranger campaign with all guns blazing, U.D.O. chose a ballad as the first single. There is still something fascinating about hearing that famously rough, steel-edged voice in a setting like this. Strip away some of the armour and Udo's voice doesn't lose its character; it reveals another dimension of it. The song turns perseverance into something deeply personal: the stages, the crowds, the memories and the determination to keep singing for as long as there is breath left to do it. For an artist approaching his 75th birthday, those words inevitably carry weight. But Voodoo Ranger is not about saying goodbye. Quite the opposite. The second single, "The Sky Is The Limit," kicks the doors wide open again. Driven by a message of ambition, courage and refusing to back down, it captures the forward-looking spirit behind the entire record. Twenty albums into U.D.O.'s career, the sentiment could hardly be more appropriate: your time to shine. Elsewhere, Voodoo Ranger gets considerably heavier and darker. "Hell Hunt" stalks through the shadows with cold precision; "Reach For The Crown" brings thunder, steel and battle-ready grandeur; "Pain & Glory" turns resistance into an anthem, while "Devil's Mind" ventures into more sinister territory. The title track itself introduces the mysterious "Voodoo Ranger" as a cursed, out-of-control figure wandering through a world of darkness, chaos and magic. Then there are songs such as "Keep Me Alive" and "Magic Life," which take on particular meaning in the context of the triple anniversary. Music, stages, noise, memory and the bond between performer and audience run through them. They don't feel like nostalgic reflections on a finished career, but like declarations from someone who is still very much inside it. The album was written by Udo Dirkschneider, Sven Dirkschneider, Peter Baltes and Fabian "Dee" Dammers , a combination that brings together different generations of the U.D.O. story. Peter Baltes' presence in particular adds another unmistakable piece of heavy metal history to the band's current chemistry, while Sven Dirkschneider and Dee Dammers have long since become integral forces in the modern U.D.O. machine. Completing today's line-up is guitarist Alen Brentini . Having joined after the songwriting for Voodoo Ranger had already been completed, Brentini wasn't involved in the album's writing process - but he has already left his musical mark on the record: the guitar solos on "I'll Die Trying" and "Movin' On" were recorded by him. And on stage, he has already made it clear what he brings to the band. Together, the Dirkschneiders, Baltes, Dammers and Brentini form a formidable live unit - seasoned, energetic and visibly enjoying the next chapter. Recorded across Redhead Studios, ROXX Studios and Unholy Studio , Voodoo Ranger was produced and mixed by Martin "Mattes" Pfeiffer , with mastering handled by..
